The figure expresses the unity of life principles, and plays an especially important role in the female initiation rites. During her seclusion period, a girl initiate is given a trunk like figure, which she ritually feeds and cares for, in order to promote her growth, health, and fertility.
Description:
Fetish figure with wedge—shaped body, short cylindrical neck, flat jaws, double crescent—shaped headdress. Small face, slit mouth, dotted eyes on one side, flat shoulders, flanged at bottom.
